5-Mile Full and Half Marathon Filling Fast for Popular Boston’s Run to Remember on May 25

Runners who want a bib urged to act quickly for spot in Downtown Boston road race that pays tribute to fallen law enforcement officers

BOSTON (April 23, 2014) – Race organizers on Wednesday urged runners who want a spot in the special 10th edition of Boston’s Run to Remember on May 25 to act quickly to join a race field that is filling faster than ever.

The charity event’s 5-mile race already is full and only a limited number of bibs remain for the half marathon. Both races feature scenic loop courses that start at the Seaport World Trade Center and wind through historic downtown Boston, with the half marathon crossing over the Charles River along Memorial Drive in Cambridge before looping back.

Sponsored by the Boston Police Department and the Boston Police Runner's Club, Boston’s Run to Remember honors Massachusetts law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. This year marks the 10th year for a charity event that continues to attract record numbers of runners. Last year, a record-setting 8,763 runners crossed the finish line, which marked the first large road race in downtown Boston following the Boston Marathon tragedy in April.

Demand for bibs remains high again this year and officials expect registration will close soon.

“We typically get a bump in registration after the Boston Marathon, but this year we’ve had a bump ever since registration opened, which means anyone who waits much longer is going to get shut out,” said Race Director Steve Balfour. “We encourage anybody who wants in to sign up today and join us in paying tribute to fallen law enforcement officers.”

The courses for Boston’s Run to Remember will take participants on a historic tour past downtown landmarks, including the State House, Government Center, Faneuil Hall, Boston Common, The Public Garden, the Old State House and Post Office Square.

Those venturing out on the half marathon course also have the added bonus of running through additional Boston historical sections, including Back Bay, with the backdrop of the Boston skyline as inspiration each step of the way.

For those who have already registered, packet pick up is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 24 during a two-day Sports & Fitness Expo at the World Trade Center on Seaport Avenue.

For additional information, follow the race on Facebook or visit the website at www.bostonsruntoremember.com.

Boston’s Run to Remember is produced by a handful of police officers and detectives who volunteer their time to create, organize and manage the race. Proceeds benefit the community and children’s programs of the Boston Police Runner’s Club. For those who cannot run this year but want to take part, donations may be made to Boston’s Run to Remember and sent to P.O. Box 760670, Melrose, MA 02176.

Additionally, there are a number of charities who also use the race as a fundraising effort for their programs, including the Alzheimer's Association, where Balfour also works as Director of Special Events.
