Radiant Images to Showcase New Pocket-sized Cinema-Quality POV Camera and Other Innovative 3D Solutions at 3D Entertainment Summit in Hollywood on Sept. 20-22
3D rigs and customized equipment also on display at the Radiant Images booth this week for the entertainment industry’s definitive conference on all things 3D
LOS ANGELES (September 19, 2011) – Radiant Images, a leading L.A.-based rental house and digital cinema innovator, will showcase a new pocket-sized cinema-quality POV camera and other 3D solutions at the 3D Entertainment Summit in Hollywood on Sept. 20-22.
The new camera, called the SI-2K Nano, will be included with other 3D rigs and customized equipment at the Radiant Images (www.radiantimages.com) table for the entertainment industry’s definitive conference on all things 3D.
The 3D Entertainment Summit (www.3d-summit.com) begins tomorrow (Sept. 20) at the Hollywood & Highlands Center in Hollywood. The 4th annual 3D Entertainment Summit brings together thought leaders from around the globe to analyze 3D in all platforms. Radiant Images, formerly known as HD Camera Rentals, will be in Table #1.
The tiny SI-2K Nano was conceived by Babak Mansouri, brother of Radiant Images co-founder Michael Mansouri, to meet the POV camera needs of Director David Ayers for his new movie, End of Watch, a gritty cop drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena. SI-2K Nanos are strapped to the chests of the two actors for POV shots and are integrated into the storyline. The film is scheduled for release in 2012.
The SI-2K Nano, available exclusively at Radiant Images, shoots 2K uncompressed RAW 4:4:4 cinema quality using Silicon Imaging (SI) sensor components encased in a sturdy outer shell. Sinclair Labs Inc. engineered the camera based on the conceptual design of Babak Mansouri, an L.A.-based documentary filmmaker and camera operator who works closely with Radiant Images.
At the 3D Entertainment Summit, Radiant Images will display the SI-2K Nano in side-by-side 3D format as part of a body mount built for the ongoing production of the dance movie Step Up 4Ever. The rig is linked and synced with the Cinedeck for SI-3D monitor. With its small, unobtrusive size, the new camera is enabling the filmmakers to raise the bar even further in getting dynamic dance sequence shots for the popular film series.
In addition to the SI-2K Nano in 3D, other 3D rigs and equipment on display in the Radiant Images booth include: - State-of-the-art STEREOTEC 3D Mid Size Rig with RED One MXs on a Panther dolly with Chrosziel’s Aladin Mark II wireless remote control system and cmotion’s cvolution LCS. Radiant Images recently teamed up with the German manufacturer STEREOTEC to make the motorized, universal 3D rig available to the L.A. production community for the first time.
- Element Technica’s lightweight Atom 3D rig with RED Epics and cmotion’s cvolution LCS. The Atom offers a full 5K-3D beamsplitter system weighing as little as some 35mm camera systems.
- Element Technica’s Dark County 3D rig with SI-2K sensors and Cinedeck for SI-3D. With this compact beamsplitter rig, Radiant Images has put the inter-axial and other controls in the operators hand for quick adjustments.
- P&S Technik Freestyle 3D rig with SI-2K sensors, Cinedeck for SI-3D and cmotion’s cvolution LCS. The brand-new freestyle rig is especially designed to offer maximum creativity for camera movement in 3D production. A range of ergonomic mounting accessories prepare this rig also for shoulder, crane, jib, Steadicam, tripod and dolly use.
- A handheld rig using side-by-side IndieCams with HyperDecks by Blackmagic.
The Radiant Images booth will be staffed by lead technician Nick Lantz and Michael Mansouri, one of the industry's most knowledgeable, inventive and proficient experts in HD and 3D digital technology.
